Just to shake things up a bit at Evil Jungle Price, I'm adding a new category called Commentary. This is a little alcove for me to slip in non-recipe stuff that is at the same time food-related.
In our bigger-is-better culture, we Americans are often bombarded with television commercials that advertise grotesque food items that are meant to satisfy our society's longing for overdulgence at bargain basement prices. I often think this "do everything to excess" element of our culture springs from our pioneer history, when for so long our families lived with so little. But who knows? In any case, the following video, Taco Town, takes a jab at this aspect of our culinary life and it is really damn funny!

I just watched this and nearly laughed out loud -- but it does, very clearly, demonstrate exactly the "stuff my face" mentality that comes from so many commercialized food outlets in this country.
I'd be lying if I said I didn't convince myself every now and again that I "crave" a fast-food taco or some french fries or something, but I am usually regretful afterwards. Since moving to Oklahoma, the land of DEEP FRIED MEAT IN GRAVY WITH SOME POTATOES ON THE SIDE, I have eaten significantly less fast food even though it seems to be on every corner here. And I do feel a lot better for giving up on that kind of gargantuan excess.

My favorite fast food ad- Weinerschnitzel's "Vegetarians can eat the bun."

Rose: the closest I come to fast food binging is scarfing down fries if I find myself at a roadside diner -- they normally have veggie burgers these days -- and I can't help myself but relive the past with a big plate of fries and ketchup. And I'll admit it out loud: I love fries.
Homer: Ugh, so wrong! This reminds me of Fat Burger days at my old employer, Yahoo!. They used to shut down the cafeteria and the Fat Burger van would serve fat burgers to all the carnivores. The vegetarian fat burger, much to my chagrin, was nothing but a bun with nothing inside. OHHHH I was livid!
