But as you said you do not want it as a carrier you can just use it as a car seat. I'm not sure if you could get an infant nonconvertible carseat without a base. If you are doing a lot of sightseeing you may want a travel system and if you can afford it. (carseat, base, and stroller that locks the car seat on to it) They are handy for when your baby is asleep you don't have to unbuckle them you just unlock the seat from the base and place it onto the stroller. No waking up a baby or messing with buckles.long story short. You can use an infant car seat but not use it as a carrier if you want and you don't have to use the base but if you will be taking the carrier out of the car a lot then the base can help a lot. You don't need a seperate base they come with one. carseats with bases are very handy for running errands or anytime you'll be going from car to stroller. But as you said you do not want it as a carrier you can just use it as a car seat. I'm not sure if you could get an infant nonconvertible carseat without a base. If you are doing a lot of sightseeing you may want a travel system and if you can afford it. (carseat, base, and stroller that locks the car seat on to it) They are handy for when your baby is asleep you don't have to unbuckle them you just unlock the seat from the base and place it onto the stroller. No waking up a baby or messing with buckles.
