Plan for 'Palm Springs Golf Club' Revealed
from Palm Springs Life, June 1958. Vol. 1, No. 8
To the surprise of practically no one, the desert capital is about to spawn another private country club whose raison d' etre will be King Golf.
A firm bearing the title of the Westview Development Corporation has announced plans for the new course, dubbed the Palm Springs Golf Club, which will be design as an 18-hole championship spread. The prospective course will be ideally situation since the site is adjacent to the newly annexed Section 30 and fronts on Highway 111. The site was previously owned by the Palm Springs Capital Company and was to have been marked for thoroughbred horse racing under the auspices of the Palm Springs Turf Club.
Frank Bogert, executive vice president of the newly-formed Westview Development Corporation declared that bulldozers have already commenced clearing the 328 acres of sandy terrain so that surveyors can move in and map out the area designated for the new golf course.
Basic plans for the new club closely approximate the theme engendered by other plush desert clubs in that homesites will be dispersed around the edges of the fairways with the clubhouse the focal point of all activity. Blueprints for the layouts of the homesites and arrangement of the fairways.
Bogert underscored the fact that 'the Palm Springs Golf Club is not a promotional venture. The project is fully financed and we are not looking for partners.' Bogert did not fully elaborate on this statement, merely remarking that a group of Detroit businessmen who are prominent as builders and developers of similar projects in the Detroit area are financing the new club. Detroit boasts more than 20 golf clubs in its general environs.
SOme reports have been circulating to the effect that ground has already been broken and fairway construction is under way. However, this is a misconception attributable to the leveling job being performed by the bulldozers so that surveyors can move in. Ground breaking for the actual course construction cannot commence until complete plans have been submitted to the County Planning Commission. 'At that time,' said Bogert, 'details will be released to the press concerning exact nature of the project.'
The exact location of the site is described as being situation in Section 29, bordering along the new city limits which divides Sections 29 and 30. To the layman familiar with the Palm Springs area, this places the proposed club east of Highway 111 and slightly south of Romanoff's and Lauyre's Steak Ranch. The site boasts 2,500 feet of frontage on the east side of Highway 111.

The Westview Corporation plans to develop a championship gold course lined with fairway homes on the site. The Gannon Company has been appointed to head up the sales department that will sell the future homesites.
